With a salary of 1,500 euros per month, the question of the RSA often arises. The Active Solidarity Income does not automatically stop when you start working. It all depends on the composition of the household, the overall resources taken into account, and the declared net social amount to the CAF.

Net social amount and RSA: the data that your payslip almost hides

When you declare your income to the CAF, it is not the amount transferred to your bank account that matters. The reference used to calculate the RSA is called the net social amount. It appears on your payslip, but it differs from the net to be paid.

Why does this distinction change everything? The net social amount includes certain contributions that the net to be paid excludes. As a result, it is often slightly higher than the transfer you receive. With a declared salary of 1,500 euros, a few dozen euros of difference can tip the RSA calculation one way or the other.

The CAF reminds that this net social amount must be reported in the quarterly resource declaration. If you make a mistake in declaring the net to be paid, your right to RSA will be miscalculated. However, you can benefit from a right to error if you quickly rectify an inaccurate declaration.

Before any simulation, take your latest payslip and locate the “net social amount” line. It is this figure, and only this one, that serves as the basis. You can discover the RSA on Banqueroute to better understand the thresholds applicable to your situation.

RSA with a salary of 1,500 euros: the calculation according to household composition

The RSA is not an individual allowance. The CAF considers the household. Your salary of 1,500 euros will be compared to a ceiling that varies depending on whether you live alone, as a couple, with or without children.

Single person without children

With a net social amount of 1,500 euros, you significantly exceed the resource ceiling applicable to a single person. No RSA will be paid in this configuration.

Couple with only one spouse working

If your spouse has no income and you are the only one earning 1,500 euros, the CAF compares this salary to the ceiling for couples without children. Again, 1,500 euros exceeds the threshold, and the RSA will not be granted.

The situation changes with dependent children. The flat-rate amount increases with each additional child. With 1,500 euros of income for the entire household, the gap with the ceiling decreases significantly. An RSA supplement remains possible in certain family configurations.

Single parent with children

This is the situation where the RSA can still apply with a salary of 1,500 euros. The status of a single parent significantly increases the flat-rate amount.

  • A single parent benefits from a specific increase that raises the resource ceiling beyond the standard flat rate
  • Housing allowances (APL, ALS) are partially integrated into the calculation in the form of a housing flat rate, which reduces the final RSA amount

With one or two dependent children, the resource ceiling can exceed 1,500 euros, which opens the right to a differential RSA (the difference between the flat rate and your resources).

Quarterly declaration and solidarity at the source: what changes concretely

Since the implementation of “solidarity at the source,” the CAF directly retrieves part of your salary from employers and social organizations. Your quarterly declaration therefore arrives pre-filled with your salaries and replacement income.

This automation does not exempt you from checking each line. If you changed jobs during the quarter, if you received unusual overtime, or if an amount seems abnormal, you must correct it before validating.

The CAF specifies that beneficiaries must complete the missing income and then validate the declaration. The salary taken into account is not necessarily the one you see on your bank statement. This nuance is particularly important when your income is around an eligibility threshold.

RSA or activity bonus: the boundary at 1,500 euros

With a salary of 1,500 euros, you often find yourself above the RSA ceiling but well within the eligibility zone for the activity bonus. These two benefits do not accumulate in the same way.

The RSA is a safety net for households whose resources remain very low. The activity bonus, on the other hand, supplements the income of low-wage workers. At 1,500 euros salary for a single person, the activity bonus will likely be more advantageous than the RSA, or even the only benefit accessible.

  • The RSA decreases euro for euro as income increases, with a temporary deduction mechanism for the first three months of returning to work
  • The activity bonus applies an individual bonus that rewards professional activity
  • Both benefits are declared via the same quarterly resource declaration on the CAF website
  • An online simulator on caf.fr allows you to test your eligibility for both schemes in a few minutes

Always check your eligibility for both benefits, not just the RSA. Many employees earning 1,500 euros are unaware that they can receive the activity bonus while no longer being entitled to the RSA.

The calculation depends on too many variables (housing, expenses, family situation, other household income) for a single answer to be valid. Running a simulation on caf.fr with your net social amount remains the most reliable way to determine your situation.
